Description

Fantic Motors was established in the late 1960's originally producing mini bikes. By the 1970's the Italian company was producing trials and enduro motorcycles. Having won many world trials championships Fantic remained competitive in the trials world until their demise near century's end. Today the Fantic twinshock 240 and 300 models are highly sought after especially in the UK where the twinshock classes are very popular. There is a substantial contingent of aftermarket suppliers and builders (again more in the UK) and, hile a few items are scarce, ost replacement parts and some NOS, re still available in the US or abroad.
The Tryals Shop in upstate NY is the best source in the US for Fantic parts, ervice and advice. He also has access to many NOS parts from Italy. There are also several good sources in the UK and mainland Europe. Lot's of good information can be found on the TrialsCentral forums.
I bought this Fantic about eight years ago and used it for many years with no troubles or issues. It was however looking a bit ratty so I decided to go through it completely and give it a fresh start.
The engine was pulled and sent off to the Tryals Shop for professional rebuild. The cylinder was replaced with one from a 303, hich is supposed to have slightly better porting. New piston and nikasil plating on the cylinder, earings, lutch etc followed up with a fresh coat of paint on the engine.
While the engine was being worked on, tore down the rest of the bike completely. Modern style foot peg brackets were welded just slightly aft of the original location. The frame, wingarm, ubs and brake plates, fork lowers, riple clamps and kickstand were all sent out for powder coating in the original color scheme.
The original exhaust and modern silencer/spark arrestor were sent out for ceramic coating
The hubs were sent to Buchannon's for new Sun rims and stainless spokes. New Dunlop D803 trials tires with a Tubliss system in the rear and conventional tube in the front. The old Akront rims are included in the sale.
New wheel bearings, wingarm and headstock bearings were installed.
The upper triple clamp has been modified to locate the bars slightly forward. New bars, witch gear, omino throttle (slow) and clutch lever, nbsp;kill switch and grips. New clutch and throttle cables also. The front caliper was rebuilt and a NOS lever/cylinder installed. The front brake is non original, bought the bike with this set up already installed and decided to keep it rather than try to return to stock. If the buyer wishes, can supply and original style front hub and brake plate from a Fantic 240 as extras.
I installed Race Tech cartridge emulators in the forks and springs from B&J Racing. Rear shocks are Falcons also from B&J. Falcons are built to be mounted with the body up but this presented chain clearance issues so B&J reworked them for "conventional" mounting, o clearance issues now. The original Marzocchi rear shocks are available if the buyer wants them but they're pretty knackered
The headlight is from a Fantic 307, aillight is generic trials light. This bike has the coveted California plate. While I wouldn't dream of using it as a grocery getter, aving the plate does open the possibilities when it comes to trail access, ampground use etc. However, t is clearly lacking in some of the necessary equipment for road use, .g. no mirrors or signals. The head light, rake/tail light and horn (yes originally equipped with a horn) all function. I made a complete wire loom for all the electrics using high quality connectors and neatly routed. New coil and ignition stator were also installed.
New OKO carb set up by Classic Trial. Runs strong and clean (for a 30 year old two stroke) using 70:1 oil mix per the engine builders recommendation. If you are fortunate enough to have access to non alcohol gasoline, his bike will be thankful to you. If not, ou'll need to drain the float bowl of all fuel for storage. It runs fine with the stuff but doesn't like to sit for weeks with a full carb.
Where ever possible, ll rubber grommets, eals, tc were replaced with new. Almost all of the chassis fasteners were replaced with new stainless steel and nylock where possible (so the fender isn't fastened with one phillips head screw, ne 10mm and one 11mm hex head along with a 3/16' allen head)
Two sets of white side panels, ne in quite good shape and the other pretty good, re included in the sale. The red panels were the most knackered of the three and since I built this as a rider and not a show bike, decided to see what I could do to clean up the red panels and preserve the whites and their original graphics. After considerable time spent sanding, he red panels were looking pretty good. I had some original style graphics made up in all black and applied them before coating with several coats of rattle can clear. They almost looked too good to use at that point... but I got over it.
The rear fender is an Acerbis universal which has been cut down and the front is a Gonelli universal trials fender. Included in the sale is a set of original style reproduction fenders in white.
I'd estimate that it has fewer than 10 hours of use since completion. It has not even been dropped yet, ot that I'm afraid to use it as intended but I guess I've just been lucky. It has a tiny bit or wear now showing and a little bit of dirt just starting to collect in the hard to reach areas. I didn't refinish the engine cases other than painting them so they're marred from years of use, ut other than that it looks like it was new just a few months ago. It runs strong and has no known issues; starts on the second kick when cold and the first kick when warm. I'm confident in the overall condition of the bike but still, 'm not in the business of making motorcycles and can't amortize the odd fluke failure over thousands of successes. Therefore this bike is sold as is and with no warrantee.
Buyer beware, antics are strangely addicting. I'm selling my 300 because there are several others in the garage that need tending to. In keeping with my personally developed habit of dumping money into something and selling it at a loss, 'm offering up my Fantic 300 with a reserve at far less than what I have into it. Then I can start all over again! Please don't ask what the reserve is.
I'm not a shipper can't advise how to or who to. I am however happy to cooperate with your shipper in coordinating pick up and loading. Also I'm happy to store it for a reasonable period of time while arrangements are made. International buyers are welcome but you'll need to make arrangements for shipping and all paper work. I may be available to deliver to the shipper if in the San Francisco area for a reasonable fee and will help out as I possible, lease contact me before auction end to go over details.
Please don't ask me to disclose the reserve.
A $500 deposit (Paypal ok) is needed within 3 days of auction end. Balance due within 7 days. Cashiers check, ersonal check, old dubloons and Yankee green back cash are all acceptable but... the bike does not leave until all funds have cleared my bank, his may take a a week or more for a personal check and several days or more for a cashiers check. Please don't ask me what the reserve is.
I'm happy to answer any questions as best I can. No doubt I've left something off. Please don't ask what the reserve amount is.
