A brief history of the manufacturer;
Daimler-benz (Mercedes-Benz) established the Ludwigsfelde factory in 1936 to make DB600enginesfor the new 'Third Reich' Luftwaffe bomber and fighter aircraft.In the course ofGerman re-armament andthe Second World War the factory went on to makeDaimler-Benz DB601, B603 and DB605 engines for various Luftwaffe aircraft.The complete production of aircraft-engines ended when in early 1945 the US Army Air Forcesbombed the factory.
The Ludwigsfelde production-site was reconstructed after WW2 and resurrected asTheVolkseigener BetriebIndustriewerke LudwigsfeldeonMarch 1st. 1952.Initially it mademarine diesel engines, achine-tools and machine elements, ut alsoa small industrialvehicles called the 'Diesel Ant" was assembled.In 1953 IWL became involved in the development and production ofmotor scooters,where afterfour modelsthis scooter production ended in 1965.Apart from this, n 1958 IWL began production of precision-castings,jet engines,agriculturalmachinery and one-off special machinery.By today the Ludwigsfelde factory is still in business, roducing the Mercedes-Benz/Dodge Sprintervans.
This high quality IWL SR59 "Berlin" scooter was nicknamed "Berliner Roller" for reason thatitwas at the time a most handy but also safe and comfortable vehicle in for instance the crowded city-center of Berlin.
The downside to this scooter was the high price like can be read in this interesting article that was published in the German motorcycle-magazine MOT in August 1961 (only in German language);http://www.iwl-stadtroller-berlin.de/seiten/berlin/mot_1961.htm, n which article alsothenumber of very unusual mechanical constructions that can be found under theskin are getting described.
After 55 years this machine is stillin a decent and nice running condition with a registered mileage of 34903 km/21731 mile (only have no proof whether this is the correct reading,though judging by the condition of the wholemachine this could wellbe the case).
The paint is old and is showing age by having a few little dings,-scratches and-markings, here also on the rest of the machine traces of age and use are present.
A nice things to know is that parts for this scooter are still available through the net,asI can help you to thedetails of a couple of German online IWL-scooter parts specialists.

The crate will safely sail in a sealed container and the shipment is fullyinsured for eventual damage/loss.
