Description

1978 Yamaha Rd400 twin. I had 2 of these bikes that were identical and have sold one and am now selling this bike as well so that I can gain some garage space. I have owned both 20+ years. This bike is very fast and actually kinda scarey and I am currently riding larger 4 strokes in my old age. It has been stored for 20 years. I drained the tank back then so it and the petcock are clean. I cleaned the carbs which were actually pretty clean. I ordered a new battery for it. I have added a small amount of premix to the gas tank for safety but the premix system is still intact and working. The bike fired right up and has good compression. I have a link to Photobucket where its running that I can send you if you want. Ebay doesnt allow links in ads anymore. The 2 carbs need the idle set and probably synched together a little better but it revs like mad and sounds good. Cosmetically its in better than average shape for one of these. The tank has a few chips and dings and the seat has a few tiny spots in the stitching where its thin but nothing big. I have included photos of those areas. It needs brakes rebuilt front and back from sitting and fork seals. The title says bond on it. I bought it from a guy who never transferred it into his name. I had the title though and so I had to have the state of Iowa go through a process to make sure the title matches the bike before putting it in my name. Its totally transferable and means little but I want to make sure its in the ad if it matters to anyone. It is not salvage or rebuilt. I bought brand new Factory Pipe Products chambers for it back then and jetted it for them. It really flew as i recall and you had to try to keep the front wheel down in traffic. It still has a toolkit under the seat. Its a really sharp bike that just needs a good weekend of work to enjoy. The bike must be paid for before its shipped or picked up. Please feel free to ask any questions. NO RESERVE. Thanks for looking.
