Description

An interesting bike… Someone had a vision of what the ideal BSA twin should be and used a 1971 Lightening motor with a 1964 A65 Frame, s well as the front end and Lester mag wheels off of a Yamaha 500, nd BSA clubman café exhaust. I bought the bike locally this summer. The bike started ok but in running it up and down the driveway of the farm I bought it at, t clearly needed a tune-up and the brakes needed bleeding. I have not started nor ridden the bike since the day I bought it. Actually, have not done anything to it at all.It was a future project I was hoping to get to. I am moving to the east coast and have to thin down the fleet and parts inventory (see my other auctions).

Take a look at the photos as they tell the story better than I can. As I have said above the bike needs to be gone over and at a minimum it needs a good tune up. Please don’t think you can hop on it today and ride it to California. If you haven’t worked on British bikes before this is probably not the project bike for you. Some things I can tell you about the bike is that the gauge cluster is not hooked up, nd the kickstart lever taps the exhaust on the downstroke. Again, have not had this bike a long time, or ridden it more than 100 yards. It is being sold as-is where-is so I would highly encourage you to stop by and take a look at the bike for yourself. I am happy to answer questions about it or go out in the garage and look at something or take pictures on it that’s not shown in the photos. The bike is located in NE Minneapolis and I work close to home so I am available to show it to you, r your drinking buddy mechanic, ay or night.

From what I could tell, he front end has some adaptors made to fit the triple tree stem into the BSA headstock. The rear swingarm had a mount welded to it for the rear caliper. There are BSA/Triumph wheelsets and front ends readily available if you wanted to return it to a traditional look, and sell off the Yamaha parts. The only thing I have done to this bike was to take off the aftermarket gas tank and seat, nd set the current gas tank and seat on the bike, hich I bought off ebay. The gas tank has a dent on the right side and the fuel cap area is pressed in. I was going to fix it with some compressed air. The gas tank and seat are not bolted down so they would need those nuts/bolts as well. The clubman exhaust looks new and is in great shape. If I was keeping the bike I would probably sell the clubman exhaust on ebay and I think the bike would look great with a set of high pipes.
Some good things about the bike are as follows. Since it has already been altered you are free to change it to your ideal BSA! The 1971 motor is nice because it was the final development of the engine so it had the final engineering touches like the cast iron oil pump, arger cylinder base studs, inned rocker cover, tc. The bike also has electronic ignition. The earlier frame is nice, uch better than dealing with the oil-in-frame later model. The mag wheels look decent on the bike and the addition of front and rear disk brakes is probably a good thing.

The bike has a clean MN title which matches the engine numbers (1971). I do not have the facilities to crate or disassemble the bike for shipping, ut am happy to store the bike for a reasonable period of time until you can come get it or arrange for pickup. There are plenty of bike shippers who travel through Minneapolis who can deliver the bike for a reasonable rate. Please don't bid unless you plan on following through. I would like a $200 paypal deposit on the bike and the rest in cast at the time of pickup. Please take a close look at the photos, have tried to take pictures of all angles of the bike and paid for extra photos to be included in the listing. If you have a question about the bike please send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can with an answer. The bike is located in NE Minneapolis if you want to look at it in person. Thanks for looking!
