So, ou want a MOPAR, on't you. But all those Chargers, hallengers, Cudas, amp; Letter cars are forcing you to choose between you kid's college fund and having a MOPAR, ight? Well, possibly have a solution for you:
--2 door? Check
--318ci V8? Check
--727 Trans? Check
--Rear Wheel Drive? Check
--Super Rare? Check
Okay so it's not a Challenger, r even a New Yorker. But it is unusual, nd can get you into the classic car hobby with a good condition, unning, riving, are MOPAR.
This is a very rare 1982 Imperial Frank Sinatra edition. A little background: from 1981-1983 Chrysler decided to split the "Imperials" into a separate make. They jammed all the new technology they had at that time into these cars. But the experiment failed, nd only about 25,000 of these Imperials were produced. "That's not rare!" you say. Okay, ot really. But the Frank Sinatra Edition, vailable only for 1981-1982 is rare. In 1982 only about 230 of these were produced. They came in a specific color (allegedly to match Sinatra's eyes) with matching interior. There was also a cool little case that sits on the floor on the transmission hump that houses a bunch of Old Blue Eye's tapes with his favorite songs. Try finding that little gem anywhere. The Frank Sinatra Edition added almost $2,500 to the price tag of the Imperial, ushing a 1982 Imperial to a little over $28,000....the most expensive American car available in 1982. Mine is even rarer in that it is one of only about 150 that were exported to Canada.
Particulars on the car I have:
The paint is recent and shiny. The transmission was replaced about 3 years ago (before I bought it). The car has 64k miles on it. Like 99% of all Imperials, he original EFI system was converted over to a carb (this was done by Chrysler at a cost of over $2000 per car!). This was professionally done by Chrysler. The tires are new but about 10 years old if that makes sense (the previous owner who was...wait for it...a Sinatra impersonator, eplaced the tires then parked the car in the garage & rarely drove it). The interior is nice, imberly Cloth was what it was called. There are a few small burn holes on the drivers seat. It needs a good detailing. The headliner and sail panels are out but I have them, hey need to be recovered. The bumpers chrome mostly peeled off. What's good for you is that they used that cheapo chrome tape for them, o instead of having to have them re-chromed, ou can just get some chrome tape from the store, pend about an hour, nd voila you have your bumpers re-done. The vacuum headlights work well....that alone is worth 1/2 the asking price because if they weren't & you had to try and figure that out with the 5 miles of vacuum lines, ell.....you get the picture.
I had about $400 worth of brake work done. It does still need the rear brake line replaced. The carb needs a rebuild or swap out (it runs fine as long as you let it initially warm up for about 5 minutes).
The trunk is in excellent shape, hough it smells like the Rat Pack must have left a body in there for a couple of months. A good shampooing should fix that and remove any lingering DNA evidence. All of the LCD dash readouts work (again, hen this is not working....good luck fixing it, o that's a huge plus....this was the first American production car with an LCD dash). Power antenna and power trunk work, ower seats work in all positions. Power windows all work. There is some rust on the front frame extensions, ut other than that the car is solid. The gas tank was replaced a couple of years ago.
Car shifts fine, uns, rives, nd stops well. It draws a lot of attention. I took it to a couple shows as it sits now, nd people were all over it. So, f you have a huge need for attention, his car will help you satisfy that. I do also have the owners manuals, riginal shop manuals (VERY rare), nd even an original letter from Chrysler from the late 80's when the then-owner of this car wrote to Chrysler asking how many were produced (this letter is referenced in a Hemmings article about the 81-83 Imperials, o that's kinda cool). On Aug-11-15 at 19:09:16 PDT, eller added the following information:
