Restoration Receipts SELLER REMARKS Old school rods are red hot right now. and they don't come much more traditional than this 1928 Ford Model A roadster. A real steel body with glass rear fenders and a way-out flame job. this 1960s style gasser rod is not only cool to look at but also a total gas to drive. At first glance. this slick little roadster looks black. but in the right light. it's actually dark. dark green and the contrast is great when you're lost in a sea of black Model As. The body itself is steel. while the fenders and deck lid are fiberglass. and it's all been nicely prepped and finished to look great on the road. The flames are done in the traditional style. licking out of the engine compartment and along the bodywork. Up front there's a '32 Ford grille shell with a red insert. large headlights. and a front-mounted tank that reinforces the gasser look. Details like the door handles. wind wings. and windshield stanchions are vintage-looking parts that add a little shine and '39 Ford taillights out back look as good here as they do anywhere else. And unlike a lot of open engine compartments. this one has a removable black canvas "hood" that protects the blown small block in inclement weather. probably a smart idea on a care that's built to drive. It's a roadster. so accommodations are minimalist. but the pleated upholstery is nicely finished and surprisingly roomy in the vintage roadster. Matching door panels and a full set of carpets give it a polished feel from behind the wheel so you don't feel like you're driving an ancient race car. There's also a fat steering wheel. an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit. and seat belts. so it really is a car that you can use as a real car. which is always a nice feature in any rod. Instrumentation consists of a column-mounted tach (of course) and a set of white-faced Stewart Warner gauges that have an old time look directly out of the '60s. Overhead you get a black canvas top with an opening rear window for ventilation and the rumble seat is now a trunk that's professionally finished with more pleats and black carpeting. Road trip anyone? The 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 makes big block levels of power thanks to a vintage GMC 3-71 supercharger rebuilt by Super Chargers USA. Using a '60s Cragar adapter. it sits neatly atop the small block and inhales through a single Holley 675 CFM carburetor. Everything you can see up top has been chromed or polished. including the Z/28-style finned valve covers and a trick billet aluminum belt drive system. Long-tube headers dump out the sides to give it a stunning rumble at idle and a full-throttle wail that definitely gets attention. It's backed by TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch Ford rear end that's fitted with ladder bars and a set of wheelie bars for that true gasser look. The front suspension uses a dropped I-beam axle and wishbones which always looks best on a hi-boy roadster like this. Big-n-little Boyd's wheels are fitted with 165/80/15 front and 285/70/15 rear tires that complete the look without killing streetability. There are a bunch of us who grew up with rods like this. and the combination of flyweight bodywork and a potent V8 makes it an absolute thrill to sit behind the wheel.
