1979 International Scout II
Convertible 4x4 V8 Auto
California Find
Up for auction is the very cool 1979 International Scout II. Second to last year of production! This unrestored original Scout was rescued from the dry California region and is very solid. This is the way you want to find a Scout II. It has the very desirable big 345 V8 coupled to an automatic trans with a B&M Shifter. The 4bblT-Quad carb has been completely gone through and works awesome! This iconic 4x4 starts up (every time...effortlessly), drives and runs great due to recent tune up. It has the optional larger fuel tank (33 Gal). All fluids have been checked and serviced. Its original whitepaint shows very well for being 37 years old but does have the normal wear and tear that comes with buying a vintage SUV. This Scout is so nice and original, the top has never been off!The rockers, fender lips and body mounts are totally rust free and solid...the pics show how straight they are. Therear cargo area is solid as well. I've had a lot of Scouts and this one would be a great candidate for a soft restoration or simply keep as is and enjoy but it's not a pile of rust like you often find in the east and Midwest regions. The interior is in great shape with seat covers on the front buckets due to wear and will need to be re-covered but the back seat isnear perfect. All of the gauges appear to be in working order but the previous owner converted the key switch to a push button start. The tires are 31x10.5x15 but are showing some weather cracking and I recommend new shoes ASAP. I was going to throw on some new tires but decided to let the new owner decide on tread pattern and size in case a future lift might be considered. Clean California title is signed and ready to go. This a great opportunity to buy a sought after Scout II that is affordable and does not come with acrazy highprice tag that the restored Scoutsare now pulling. The reserve is low and fair...don't pass up this great opportunity to own a West Coast Scout.
HAGERTY Insurance recently said: "International SUV's are up 85%" and"These SUV's are going to be the big trend in car collecting".
