Listed here is a 1967 Gerhardt Indianapolis 500 Race Car. The car was purchased New in 1967 by Walter Weir from St Louis, MO.
Gerhardt Race Cars were built by Fred Gerhardt of Fresno, CA. Fred Gerhardt's Every Day Business was building Truck Bodies. He Loved Race Cars and built a total of 41 in his Lifetime. He is Credited with Designing the Rear Lift Door that is used on all Modern Day Vehicle Transporters.
This Race Car was Originally built in 1967 for a 4 Cam Ford Indy 500 Race Engine, and a Halibrand 2 Speed Trans Axle.
This car comes complete with a No Expense Sparred, Freshly Rebuild, State of the Art, Original 4 Cam Ford Engine, Rebuilt by Ed Pink Racing of Van Nuys, CA, and the Original Halibrand Tran Axle.
In the Fall of 1966 Walter Weir had a chance to see Lorenzo Bandini one of the Ferrari F1 Team Drivers race at Watkin Glen. Walter was so impressed with Bandini that he flew to Italy and met with Enzo and Bandini. Walter came home with a signed Contract for Bandini to Race in the 1967 Indy 500. Unfortunately Lorenzo Bandini died on May 10, 1967 from injuries he received in a crash just a few days before at the Monaco Gran Prix.
Walter Weir then hired Al Miller a seasoned USAC Driver to Qualify and Race the number 32 Car at the 500. In the Race the Car made it's way up to the 16th position before a mechanical sidelined the car on Lap 74.
This Race Car is in Excellent Restored Condition.
The Original Tires are NOS.
