I was out driving this BEAUTY today taking the pictures and I felt like I was driving a nearly brand new Thing !! We just purchased this "Thing" from the previous older Montana owner who has owned it for the last 10+ years and as you can clearly see in the pictures and video this was his pride and joy for sure !! Born from Nazi German design. the "Kubelwagen" or "Bucket Car" was initially developed as a light weight. rugged. reliable and easily repaired off-road personnel transport vehicle for the West German Army from 1968 to 1983. These Things are pretty rare as they were only sold in the US market between 1972 and 1974 and only approximately 25. 00 Thing Convertible's in total were sold in the U. S. market. This Thing is ready to drive anywhere !! This car is not your average old VW Thing that is worn out with a new paint job. Thousands of dollars and many. many hours were spent on the restoration. care and upkeep of this VW Thing and boy does it show ! Most of the interior was redone including NICE - Black vinyl upholstery and it has a nearly brand new Black vinyl convertible top. nbsp;etc. All of the black rubber weatherstripping is soft. supple and in NEW condition. It just goes on and on with the thousands of dollars and many hours of professional work done on this car !! I believe it is a nice value at the price we have it listed at considering all the time and money spent on this BEAUTY ! Cars like this were quite a novelty in their day to say the least but now. in this kind of shape ? What a find ! Any Volkswagon Thing enthusiast would be pleased to own this BEAUTY !! It still retains the - FACTORY ORIGINAL - correctly mounted Volkswagen data plate which is shown in a picture below. I drove this BEAUTY as my every-day driver to and from the office and running errands as needed and I can assure you this car runs and drives well. I drove it to the office the other morning with the top down and can see why these cars are so loved by their owners. TOO FUN !! It also does well on the freeway at modern highway speeds. This Thing Convertible has a - STRONG - 1600cc Dual Port Air Cooled four cylinder motor in it that is running VERY WELL indeed. The motor retains the ORIGINAL style dual port intake manifold. ORIGINAL style exhaust manifolds. ORIGINAL style 1 barrel carb and a custom chrome air cleaner housing. The motor is backed by a - SMOOTH - four speed manual gearbox / transaxle which also functions VERY well. Sounds good too with the factory style dual muffler exhaust system with dual stainless steel tips. The Canary Yellow exterior finish on this BEAUTY is EYE POPPING BEAUTIFUL with really little to no wear showing other than several small chips and imperfections but is still bright. shiny and looks STUNNING to say the least as you can clearly see in the video above and pictures below. The nearly ALL NEW Black vinyl Thing interior is in VERY NICE condition and looks BEAUTIFUL including VERY NICE NEW Black vinyl adjustable front bucket seats. nbsp;VERY NICE NEW Black vinyl rear fold down "jump" bench seat. VERY NICE ORIGINAL Karmann steering wheel. VERY NICE NEARLY NEW Black Vinyl Door Sliding Glass removable windows. VERY NICE Factory style gauge clusters and a VERY NICE NEARLY ALL NEW Black Vinyl convertible top. The entire interior and exterior lower "tub" has also been fully coated in heavy duty Line-X !! This Thing Convertible is nicely equipped including power wipers. factory style gauge cluster with 100 MPH speedometer. nbsp;an AWESOME - BRAND NEW Kenwood Digital AM / FM / CD Player stereo radio with two BRAND NEW enclosed Alpine 6x9 speakers mounted behind the rear seat. original dual chrome side view exterior mirrors. factory back up lights. factory front seat belts. RARE original "BN4" gas heater that turns on but the heater fuel pump is no longer working. good glass. new factory fold down windshield and the factory removable doors. The CLEAN - SOLID - "front trunk" area is equipped with a brand new steel belted full size spare tire mounted on a chrome wheel and the original jack and lug wrench. This is a QUALITY car that drives very well and is nice and tight. It is a really COOL little vehicle.
