Very nice 1968 R69S. I am the third owner. I purchased it with about 15. 00 miles on it in 1978. but didn't register it until 4/11/80 as I had another R69S that I rode most of the time. The odometer reads 57. 00 but true mileage is 70. 00 as original speedo was replaced. We have been on many trips and adventures - out west. to Daytona and around Nova Scotia on my honeymoon with my wife on her R60/2. It has been to nationals in Tennessee. Michigan. South Dakota. Wisconsin. and many other places. It always got me where I was going. but now I am old and it hurts my arthritis to kick it. I've rebuilt it a couple of times but the sheet metal still looks great even though it has some scratches and scrapes. It has an original tank and fenders painted and striped by Kent Holt. well known BMW painter. back in the 80's. I made a period hot rod of it in 1999 but put it back to stock in 2003. A friend backed into it in 2006 with minor cosmetic damage but I rode it home that day and fixed the damage easily. The crank developed some noise the next year so I took it off the road until 2009 when I had the crank redone with new rods. rollers. bearings and slingers. Randy Long rebuilt the heads with new guides and two new valves. I've only put 1. 70 miles on it since then and feel guilty for not riding my old friend. The bike has many desirable features such as a solo seat and rear rack. tachometer. stainless spokes with akront alloy rims I purchased from a German BMW dealer back in the 80's. koni shock inserts. pentacom points plate. deep oil pan. bowman aluminum flywheel. hoske mufflers. H-4 headlight unit. and a hard to find sidestand that mounts in place of the engine spacers. As I've said. the bike isn't perfect with some nicks and scratches but people always think it is a beautiful original even though I have been through it several times. Right now it needs a rear tire and when I had the new front one balanced the shop did a poor job and it bounces some. It starts easily but I regret that when I last did the motor I did not rebore the cylinders and replace the pistons even though my machinist said they were at their outer tolerances. I just replaced the rings and honed the cylinders as I wanted to keep standard bore. In hindsight that wasn't wise as occasionally on start up it smokes just a little for a minute. It's quick but doesn't pull high speed as easily as it used to which I put down to minor compression loss. I have the original fly wheel. points plate. speedometer (which needs rebuilt). reflector and lens for the headlight. as well as the toolkit. The non-working horn and battery stand which aren't mounted are also here. If you desire them. I also some of the period hot rod items but they aren't included with the bike. I also have a log of work done through the 37 years. This is a wonderful motorcycle and I may shed a tear when it leaves but it is time. both physically and financially. I only hope whoever buys it. will love it as much as I have for more than half my life.
