Description

1941 BSA WM20 - As Found UnrestoredFrame: WM20. 1 30923 Engine: WM20. 2214 / o Genuine War Issue 1941 BSA WM20 500cc 4-stroke Flathead Single. Not started or ridden since being decommissioned many years ago. Engine turns over with compression. Brakes and clutch work. Has most optional military specific G. I. components; a very complete original motorcycle. The all-original sheet metal has plenty of dents and dings. but is solid with mostly surface rust and peeling paint. Even the dirt is period vintage. The inside of the tank is decent. and the oil tank level has been kept up - it leaks about 5 drops a day. The back tire holds air. and the front has a 3 hour leak. A previous owner painted the original rear fender section. and sprayed the same paint on the left side of the tank. There is a terrible. way-old. flat olive-drab paintbrush job that is flaking and falling off everywhere. with the original army green underneath. Gearbox is Stuck In First Gear. Best guess is the bike was decommissioned when the gearbox quit shifting. The kick starter works and kicks over the motor. and the shifter moves freely but it won't shift out of first. When the motor is kicked over the rear wheel turns with it. and just the rear wheel turns when kicked with the clutch pulled in. It pushes easily. The Magdyno has been partially dismantled and needs a generator bearing; the generator armature and internals are not installed but are included. The points cover and plug wire is missing off the magneto. and when spun by hand will deliver a shock. The wiring insulation is shot. All the engine and chassis hardware is mostly good - nuts. bolts. washers and such. The motor turns over smoothly. has compression. but Does Not Run. No odd mechanical sounds. the oil pump appears to operate. No visible repairs on the engine or transmission cases. and the primary covers look good. The carburetor is all there and in good condition. but stuck closed. The bike has the military side stand. panniers. passenger pillion. and proper passenger pegs; the carrier rack is very good. and the panniers fold up and down. No attempt has been made to start the bike. and nothing beyond the above mentioned items have been touched. The bike has not been de-greased or cleaned; the tired old utilitarian patina looks straight off a battlefield. It always draws a crowd. just the way it is! Sorry. no Credit Cards or PayPal; most all other forms of payment accepted - please ask. The bike can be transported to any local Shipping/Trucking Depot free of charge; Hired delivery possible within 500 miles of Fayetteville Arkansas. For more photos or information. please call 479-304-1216. or message through eBay. The bike is sold 'as is. where is' on a Bill of Sale. as a military vehicle would not have a civilian title. The bike will not be released until funds are posted. Thanks for looking!
