I have restored over 50 Hondas in the last 20 years and I believe in being as totally original as possible and I feel as my feedback indicator shows. that I am very particular. I purchased this original CB400F totally intact and used and nicked and dented with a rusty rear rim but a nice front. Usually the other way around. It was not badly abused so I had a good foundation to work with. The engine is in great shape. with very good compression. I removed the pan and there was no residue in the oil pick up screen or the pan itself. Really clean inside so I feel it was maintained well. The engine serial # is CB400FE1009283. I adjusted the valves carefully and set the points and timing. I totally disassembled the bike down to the bare frame and had it professionally painted. I had the original muffler and header pipes re-chromed along with the handle bars. muffler clamps and tail light housing. The parts that I replaced with real new Honda parts are as follows: Exhaust Gaskets Side Grip Handle Oil Pan Gasket Pin Bar Joints Tank Holddown Mirorrs Hand Grips Kick Starter Rubber Carb Orings Insulators Clutch Lever Side Cover Grommets Exhaust Pipe collars Front Fender (almost new) Master Cylinder Kit Taillight Lens Complete Tool kit Oil Oil filter Generator Cover Brake Rod Clutch Switch Gas cap plus many Honda nuts. bolts. fasteners. etc. Parts that I replaced new from David Silverspares that are exact replicas: Tool Tray Tool Tray lid Seat Side Cover right Rear Rim (near exact) Rear wheel spokesParts that I replaced new from Parts Unlimited: Front Strut Wiper Set Brake Pads (Daido) Rear tire (IRC) Ignition SwitchI also found an owners manual. purchased a new Interstate battery and new tank side cover and frame decals. The tank and side covers were painted at a professional body shop with the correct color. The fuel tank inside is really nice and has never been coated. The chain was nearly new. I feel that the only things keeping it from a "10" are the tach red line is faded and some pitting shows on the header pipes but are beautifully chromed. This bike looks great and to me runs perfect. It will go right up the red line and stops. handles and accelerates just like it should. I have spend months restoring this bike and I am proud of the way it turned out. Any questions and I can be called at (309) 253-2180. Build date was 11/74. The carbs were overhauled. steering bearing repacked. swing arm bearing cleaned and greased. The rear hub was buffed. valve adjuster caps and a few other items. Every part was either cleaned. painted. buffed or replaced. The master cylinder and brake cylinders were overhauled with new kits and seals. I truly feel this to be a show winner as everybody that knows motorcycles said it looks as new. I am proud of it and I know the new owner. if it sells. will be too.
