Up for bid is a 1973 Moto Guzzi Eldorado 850cc. I recently bought the bike locally from a gentlemen who owned it for the past 32 years. He bought it from the original owner, is ex's father. The previous owner informed me that everything on this bike is as it left Italy 43 years ago. The engine has never been taken apart/rebuilt and this is a numbers matching bike. To my knowledge everything is present, o missing side covers or other items that commonly go missing. I am not a Guzzi expert so if I am incorrect and someone notices a small piece missing who is more familiar with these bike then I am, y apologies.
When I arrived to look at the bike, he owner was having a rather difficult time getting it to run. It would run for a second or two and then die. I opened the tank and it was dry. Got some gas in it and it fired right up. For a bike that has been off the road for 2 years, could not believe how smooth it idles. It has a nice low idle and the motor will rev right up when asked to. When I got the bike home and unloaded, y father took a quick spin around the block. The bike shifts through all the gears as it should. The brakes work but he only had it up to about 35mph. All the lights work as they should-the headlight, igh and low beam, turn signals and the horn. The lights on the dash work with the exception of the "O" light?? I messed around for a bit trying to get it to work but perhaps I missed it, r, aybe it doesn't work, ot sure. Now- the miles. The previous owner informed me that something "Stuck" in the odometer causing it to indicate it has 91,xxx miles and not the correct 31, 42 miles. Honestly, was not concerned about that in the least and I would think anyone looking at this bike would not be either. I am used to British bikes where the odometers stop working completely so it wasn't even a thought about that slight issue.
The bike itself is very original and solid. The exhaust pipes let it down visually butit is 43 years old. I was debating on cleaning it up by installing a new exhaust but I thought that people would rather see it exactly as I bought it. The tank is very nice, o dents or dings on it. There is a spot where the paint has worn off and on top there are some scrapes and whatnot. Inside the tank ispretty good shape free from any major rust. The fenders are straight and free of any major damage. The wheels are straight and true. There is some corrosion which is to be expected but nothing that would render them unsafe.I was told that the fairing and side bags are genuine Guzzi accessories but I am not sure about the fairing. When I was taking pictures of the bike, noticed a tag in the fiberglass of the fairing that said being made bysomebrothers company and it started with a "W"? I honestly never looked over the side bags very closely.
With all that being said, LEASE do not expect a show bike or to ride this thing cross country without first going over it. It has been off the road for 2 years and it is 43 years old and Italian. I am selling it as I have a Norton and a Triumph and would like to thin out the fleet. I feel as though I have been very thorough and honestin describing it. I would call this a riding resto project or a 10 foot bike if you went over it mechanically. If you have any additional questions, lease feel free to ask away!
