Description

1981 Yamaha RD350LC in original stock condition with matching frame and engine numbers.
Stored for 30 years, arked in the fall of 1985.
I bought the bike in March from a guy that bought it from the last owner.
As the story goes the previous owner who owned the bike from 1982 - 2015 passed away and his Son was selling several bikes that his Dad had stored in the house.
The guy I bought this RD from lived down the road from the fella that passed and was approached by the Son asking if he was interested in buying the bikes.
Long story short he bought as many as 5 bikes from the Son then I bought the RD and have had it for 6 months now.
Pretty rare these days to find a LC as unmolested as this one, real time capsule.
It seems to have never been worked on other than a set of new Pirelli Phantom tires from the 80s. They still have the rubber "nibs" with no cracking or sings of wear or aging.
This could explain the 30 years in storage.
It seems to have been very well stored and shows that it was in a heated house and not a cold shed or garage.
The top of the tank has some surface rust in the clear coat. Guess he should have thrown a cover on it to keep the moisture off.
I will include a new set of matching tank decals in case the buyer prefers to paint the tank although the rust spots could possibly be buffed out.
The tank is in great condition with no dents and the inside is excellent, orks fine.
Plastics in great condition with no cracks or repairs and just a few paint chips.
Stock original mirrors, ignals, uts, olts, lips, prings etc...
Seat as new and not recovered, riginal.
Scratches on right engine cover and the tip of the brake lever has scratches, ever not bent at all.
Looks like it may have fallen off the stand or down light
Less than dime size ding on lower right exhaust, ard to see in photo and only seen up close.
Overall a few very minor imperfections that can easily be fixed, arts available.
I did not want to change this RD in any way, think the history of this bike shows that it needs to be preserved.
I have new engine covers here and a freshly painted tank but I prefer to leave it up to the buyer to decide.
Same reason I did not replace the crank seals for now as I was not planning on a daily rider, hinking there is more value in a unopened bottom end.
I suppose a leak down pressure test would tell one way or the other.
I did remove and inspect the top end, tock bore 64mm pistons were in great condition after a cleaning, nstalled new Yamaha rings.
Replaced air filter, ll new fluids with Amsoil interceptor 2 stroke oil, il pump functional.
New carb needle valve kits and new jets. Carbs cleaned and adjusted.
Front master brake rebuilt, rakes bled but are sticking a bit will include new caliper seals.
Runs great and pulls strong, tarts first kick when warm but took a bit to get it going with the choke out.
All lights, orn, ignals etc... work fine, hould pass a safety check as is.
Original key fits all, gnition, uel cap, nd seat/helmet lock.
Matching low numbers frame and engine numbers, Y3-000587.
I have bought and sold dozens of RDLCs over the years and collected mostly RDs and RZs among other 2 stroke street bikes.
Took me a hell of a long time to find a nice 81 LC like this one, ot a easy decision to sell.
I`m nearing the end of restoring my 82 RD and I dont really need 2 of them so that`s the only reason why I`m selling, lso have other projects waiting.
If the buyer is interested I do have a set of freshly painted black/red mars bar tank and plastics that I would be willing to swap out for the white/ blue and $500 U.S.
Just a possible option as some prefer the black to the white colors.
Hopefully this RD ends up in a collection but if the buyer decides to use it as a daily rider please remember its been in storage for 30 years.
I did most of what was required to get the bike cleaned up and running thinking that if I kept it I would run it now and then but mostly keep the mileage down
and take it to vintage bike shows.
The crank seals should be replaced for daily use and the brake calipers should be rebuilt.
May want to check wheel bearings and grease swing arm.

Thanks very much for the overwhelming interest in the bike.As mentioned in the questions the 82 RD is not for sale, orry.Since the bike will most likely require crank seals and some attentionto be a daily rider I have lowered the reserve price, etting close now.Best of luck, ake care.
