Up for bid is a really nice, mostly original (except for color change and rear body panel) and almost rust-free, all matching numbers 1973 roundie BMW 2002tii.
All body panels, including the non-snorkel nose are straight with great gaps all around. The rear panel was replaced and notice the roundel is missing and the "2002tii" is misplaced. The bodywork is excellent and it appears there are no other signs of damage or repairs with the surrounding panels. On each door there is a small dent which can probably be fixed by paintless dent repair. The damage on the driver's side door was due to a broken door stop and the door was pushed out too far.
The original paint was Polaris/silver but the exterior was sprayed an Alpine White-like color. Looks good from 10 feet but you can see flaws in the clear coat up close. The engine bay, door jambs and trunk retain the original color. Chrome bumpers are in excellent shape.
The only rot areas are the spare tire well, which is common, and a small hole on passenger floor. Everywhere else is super solid and dry. No bodywork, bondo or filler anywhere. The car can be enjoyed as is (see inspection report for minor issues) or when the new owner is ready, can take it back to Polaris knowing body prep will not be much effort.
The interior is all original and clean. The seats have no tears and still have good cushion. The carpet has wear but shows nicely with coco mats. The dash has two cracks in the center while the headliner has no tears or discoloration. Door panels are uncut and not warped. The passenger seat belt does not retract. Clock is non-working.
Mechanically, the original numbers matching engine runs strong. The odometer stopped working at 89,xxx. The 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. The radiator was rebuilt and needle stays at the halfway point or below when the engine is running. There is some rattling in the exhaust. Suspension has newer bilsteins and handles as it should, as well as the brakes. It still has the original, desirable and hard to find rims if one wants to maintain originality; tires still have plenty of tread.
All electrical, e.g. lights, signals (notice the turn signals desirable euro version) works except for the horn.
I had an inspection done and have included a pic of it. I can provide a PDF copy if interested.
If you want to talk about the car, I can be reached at 714.454.2625.
Please do not bid if you are not able to complete the transaction.
A $1000 non-refundable paypal deposit is due within 24 hours and the balance by bank wire within seven days.
