Description

Up for auction is my 1968 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 original survivor. Completely original paint. interior and drive train. If you are interested in restoring an FJ40. this is the perfect candidate to start with. I am the 3rd owner. This Cruiser was a barn find about a year ago where it had been stored since the early 90's. The odometer reads 63. 27 miles and is believed to be original. The fuel tank was drained and flushed. carb rebuilt and water pump replaced and the FJ40 runs and idles smooth. The original owner was luckily a purist and kept it all original. As you can see in the pictures. I even have the original title. owners/repairs manuals and even the rare/expensive original tool kit. The mice have enjoyed parts of the manuals and upper part of the title. I have a small box of original parts which look like the only ones ever removed when mechanical repairs were done! The body is in completely original condition with no through rust on the exterior other than on tops of the running boards which is minor and can be easily repaired since they are flat sheet metal panels. As you can see in the pictures. there are spots of surface rust on the exterior but no paint work or repairs have ever been done so you know exactly what you are starting with. Damages to the exterior paint were caused by debris from a tow vehicle and several years of bird droppings from being stored in the barn which in turn allowed the surface rust. The interior floorboards are very solid and have surface rust also. There is only through rust on the back of the rear floor and bottom interior side of drivers door which both are repairable. Pretty remarkable for a 1968 vehicle! The rear flares were installed when the vehicle was relatively new which is the only body modification and was done by most in the day to give a more aggressive appearance. I did replace the painted flares since they were cracked/broken and did not find any rust under them. I kept what was left of the flares removed. The original hard top looks to never have been removed and is in nice condition. I did apply a new gel-coat to the roof of the hardtop. Most of the exterior lights do not work which looks to be caused by corrosion from sitting so long and need to be replaced. The original engine runs well. trans shifts properly. clutch works properly and brakes stop effectively. When the vehicle was rescued from the barn. the fuel tank was drained. flushed and carb was rebuilt. The water pump. thermostat and coolant have been replaced also along with rear differential lube. The original water pump was kept and will be included along with any miscellaneous mechanical parts which were removed though the years and luckily retained by the original owner. As you can see in the pictures it was kept completely stock and original under the hood so no hard-to-find parts will need to be searched for if you are as much of a purist as I am. The vehicle does to need to be gone over completely mechanically before taking out on the road to insure reliability and safety since it has not been driven regularly in quite some time and will need to lights replaced. I have only driven it on some agricultural property and around the block. The interior is completely original and definitely can use some updating. High-quality reproduction seat covers are available at a reasonable cost. The original seat covers are still under the ones installed now. The original jack is in the storage compartment under the drivers seat and jack tools clamped under passenger rear jump seat. It has the extremely cool original rear jump seats. It has both the front and rear heaters and I do not know if either work but are both hooked up and not leaking coolant. All the glass is in very nice condition. The wider wheels were installed surely at the same time the flares were. I believe both were done early on at the dealer and the spare stock wheel is even an 8" steel one with hubcap clips. The tires are all old and not what I would consider road-worthy. They have lots of tread. hold air well but are definitely old. The white wheels had the single red 1/8 inch pinstripe on them before I sanded and painted them. Please keep in mind that is an 1968 vehicle and not perfect by any means. but a nice all original one needing updating both mechanically and cosmetically. The perfect vehicle to start with for a high-end restoration due to its originality. I have pretty much left it as I got it so the new owner knows what they are starting with and don't have to pay for repairs which may have not been up to their high standards. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. I welcome and encourage you to inspect the vehicle by appointment at my home prior to bidding. The FJ40 is garage kept at my home so I can get you pictures or verify numbers etc. at your request. Please only have me do so if you are truly an interested buyer. If you are restoring one. I don't mind helping with info/pictures since this one is all original. I am not an authority on Land Cruisers but am on classic vehicles and know a good one when I find it which this one is. The vehicle will need to be transported due to the updates needed prior which are minor to make it an every-day-driver. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have regarding condition. but am sure most of you looking at this ad are much more knowledgeable on these than me. The buyer is responsible for all transportation costs and arrangements but I will work with your shipper of choice regarding pick-up of the vehicle. A $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close and remainder within 7 days of auction close. Payment preferably by wire transfer but will accept cashier's check or cash in person. The cashier's check must clear before you can take possession of the vehicle if that method is chosen. The deposit can be paid by PayPal. The vehicle must be picked up with 14 days unless other arrangements are agreed upon between buyer and seller prior to auction close. The vehicle will be stored indoors in my garage until picked up where it has been since I purchased it. Please call me with your questions prior to bidding or e-mail through Ebay. Mark (913)909-1186.
