About Me | See my other items | Email A Friend Description of [For Sale 1963 BMW R69S] The BMW R 69 S VIN 657466 was manufactured on January 17th. 1963 and delivered on March 18th. 1963 to the BMW importer Butler & Smith in New York City. The bike was equipped with a bench seat. We are offering for sale this nice. triple numbers matching (frame. frame tag and motor). 1963 BMW R69S that was restored from grounds up in 2003-2005 and only 700 miles since the work was performed. Bike was a part of private collection. Picture of the speedo when the bike was purchased before restoration read 65380 and is available upon request. Bike runs and rides great and looks awesome! Restoration work is documented with a folder of receipts and statements of work performed and included following: * Crankshaft and piston work by Ed Korn (modified top piston groove to accept double rings). Crank checked to within tolerance except crank rear journal hard chromed and ground to new diameter (revised specs). Wrist pin bushings replaced by Ed. Bore Tech coated piston skirts. Head work by BMW FT. Worth ( Perry Bushong) with new rotating valves. new valve guides. All new bearings (American and Japan) / slingers cleaned / seals and gaskets. New headers and mufflers. All metal components (tins) stripped. primed and painted. Re-chromed spokes. new wheel bearings. seals & tires. New brake linings. New Denfeld Solo Seat. Many bolts cad plated. some replaced with stainless. New Aluminium Oil Pan. 2L* New wiring. new cables. * 2015 - top end resealed with brand new set of gaskets and seals. valves adjusted. bike is ready to go!!! The Earles Forks and opposing cylinder engine always get a lot of attention. The BMW R69S. produced from 1960 to 1969. was BMW’s sportbike of its day. With 42 horsepower. it was by far the most powerful bike BMW made at the time. You had to pay to play ($1. 64 in 1966). but that extra money bought you one of the most prestigious motorcycles available in the day. This is one of my favorite motorcycles of the 1960’s. But I’ll leave the explanation of why that is to Cycle World. who put it best in a 1962 review:"Whatever the BMW’s merits in a contest of speed. it is still the smoothest. best finished. quietest and cleanest motorcycle it has ever been our pleasure to ride. To be honest. we think that anyone who would worry much over its performance-potential is a bit of a booby. The R69S is fast enough to handle any encounter. and it has attributes that are. in touring. infinitely more valuable than mere speed. All things considered. if we were planning a two-wheel style vacation/tour. the BMW would have to be our choice of mount.
