Up for auction is a Parakeet Yellow 1977 Honda CB400F2. The last of 3 years produced from 1975-77, he 1977 was slightly different from the first two years having higher handle bars, tandard foot peg position, tripes on the tank and a locking lid over the filler cap. I loved the way the earl1er models rode and handled with the low bars and rear sets,so I replaced the original bars, oot pegs & shifter with original Honda low bars and rear set pegs / shifter from the 1975-76 model year. As one of the only true classic factory cafe racers, t's the way these bikes were meant to be. The bike was in storage for many years and ridden little before she was put into hibernation. The previous owner stated the mileage was accurate. What I found was a great example of the venerable 400F that had incredible mechanicals but worn out paint, ome surface rust and tarnishing of the engine casings. I went to work on her cleaning, ebuilding & syncing the carbs, leaning off rusted areas best I could. Replacing the battery, luids, ires & tubes (Avon Roadriders), reproduction seat cover & new paint (with original reproduction decals for the 1977 model year). Also replaced the stock exhaust with what I believe is the best after market 4 into 1 system for this model -- the difficult to find Italian made Marving. Sounds awesome -- throaty but not too loud and allows you to keep the center stand & maintain access to the oil filter. I rode it a few hundred miles and the bike now has 4,040 on the odometer,
It comes with the original owners manual and tool kit. I also have all the original bars and exhaust (see pic) to bring it back to a stock configuration if you desire and will include them in the auction. The original 4 into 1 exhaust is in pretty decent shape but cosmetically would need the head pipes re-chromed. All electrics work as they should, he shifts smooth, andles great, rakes well and has lots power with a very tight & quiet motor. All indicative of a low mileage bike. The bike sounds and runs incredible.
There's still a little surface rust here and there, he instrument faces are a bit sun bleached and there is some pitting and wear on the chrome. Also a tiny puncture hole in the new seat cover where a tool in my pocket pierced it -- stupid move on my part. While not a show bike (as she still has some patina) - an overall great looking bike that runs fantastic. I'm crazy to sell this as I've coveted the 400F since I was a kid when they were first produced. I don't have the room and need to move on to other projects. My loss is you gain.
Mileage may slightly increase as I get in my last few rides :-)
Bike is available for local pick up and can be inspected by appointment before auction end. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs however I can assist by recommending a shipper and helping coordinate pick up and load. I can also deliver within a 100-150 miles distance from my location for a fee. There is a $250 down payment required within 48 hrs of auction end. Balance is due in 7 days payable by bank check or wire transfer. I can store the bike for a reasonable period of time while you schedule and await pickup. This is a 39 year old bike, t is sold as is, here is no warranty expressed, ritten or implied.
